Full Contact Fit

FITS Socks Full Contact Fit

Have you ever wondered how a flat pair of socks can fit your foot? They can’t! When you take a pair of FITS socks out of the packaging, they look just like feet. This sculpted design ensures that the sock is comfortable and stays put. No movement or slipping reduces blisters. It’s called the “Full Contact Fit!”

The Full Contact Cuff gently hugs your leg. This prevents the sock from sliding down your leg, creating slack in the ankle area. When you’re out on the trail, you won’t be constantly tugging at the tops of your socks to keep them in position.

The Dynamic Toe Cup allows for a close, comfortable fit with no bunching or extra material. Top stitching is soft and positioned so that there are no hot spots. The toe cup allows the toes to perform their job and keeps the sock out of their way. No unlacing shoes mid-run for an adjustment.

The Heel Lock is constructed with Y-shaped stitching. This creates a deep heel pocket that anchors the entire sock – no slipping! This ensures that the sock maintains its shape and stays put.

The Perfect Fit

Ruffner Mountain Trail Running Festival

Join Alabama Outdoors on Saturday, April 27th for the 2013 Ruffner Mountain Trail Running Festival!

Starting at 8:00 am, a variety of distances to chose from including a 5K, 10K, and 15K.  And starting at 7:00 am, an 8 hour option for those wishing to enjoy the entire day on the trails of Ruffner.

The course is entirely on 1,036 acre Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve in Birmingham, AL.  All races begin on the service road adjacent to the parking lot and Nature Center.  All races will start at the Pavilion/parking lot and will head up the service road with the different distances splitting off.  The 5K will head straight on the Quarry Trail going around Possum Loop, back on Quarry to the finish.  The 10 and 15K will start with a bit more service road spurring off to the right onto the trails headed down the Buckeye to Lizard Loop.  It will double back to the Ridge and Valley, then around Possum Loop and back on the Quarry to the finish.  The 15K will split off from the 10K to add the additional distance.

The trails of Ruffner include diverse terrain with rocks, roots, and ample elevation change.  The 10 and 15K distances include the most challenging trails.

Starting at 7:00 am, the 8 hour option will take advantage of all three courses to keep it interesting.  For those wishing to set up their own aid station, the course will loop back to the parking lot several times and there’s ample space for a chair, cooler, gear, and etc.

Fun Facts about Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve:

  • There is 5,000 feet of elevation change in our Crusher Ridge 21K! It triples in the 63K.
  • Ruffner’s Preserve was once a major mining site with 9 iron ore mines, 3 limestone, 2 chert and 2 brownstone quarries. Today it hosts a globally rare plant species and the only East off the Mississippi population of the Spring Water Dancer.
  • 12 miles of trails cross the site with copious un-trailed area, our Urban Back Country.
  • Our trees remove $471,000 worth of air pollution each year!

Birmingham – On Sunday, April 21, 2pm-Until, Alabama rock favorites Earthbound will play their highly-anticipated annual outdoor concert, Earthbound’s Earthfest, at Avondale Brewery (201 41st Street South).

This family-friendly event’s purpose is to raise awareness for Earth Day and raise funds for Black Warrior Riverkeeper, a citizen-based nonprofit clean water advocacy organization.  Black Warrior Riverkeeper is dedicated to improving public health, recreation, and wildlife habitat throughout Alabama’s 17-county Black Warrior River watershed, which provides approximately half of Birmingham’s drinking water.

Earthbound’s Earthfest is open to all ages, but those under age 21 must be accompanied by a parent. Throughout the event, Earthbound – and a special mystery guest – will play several sets.  Avondale Brewery’s large outdoor area will also feature displays and merchandise from Black Warrior Riverkeeper and local artists.

There will be no mandatory entrance fee.  Suggested donations from the audience, plus proceeds from merchandise, beer, and raffle ticket sales, will support Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s efforts to protect local waterways and Birmingham’s drinking water supply.  Corporate sponsors continue to roll in, with Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. and their award winning water treatment partner, MacLellan, Inc. in the lead.

Oakley Sunglasses

Oakley Sunglasses, founded in 1975, has been making optical eye wear for over 35 years. Due, in much part to the popular demand of our customers, we are pleased to announce the addition of Oakley sunglasses at Alabama Outdoors in Homewood, Inverness, and Huntsville. We have over 30 different combinations of styles, frames, and lenses to choose from. From the more casual, lifestyle shades to the enhanced-performance shades, our selection covers a wide-variety of intended use and activity.

Oakley Holbrook Sunglasses

Shown above is the Oakley Holbrook Sunglasses. These frames are derived from the Oakley Frogskin Series of sunglasses. Shaun White, superstar extreme-athlete, worked closely with Oakley in the creation of the Holbrook. Due to the Holbrook’s popularity, we decided to bring in the Non-polarized Holbrook, the Polarized Holbrook, the Holbrook with Iridium Lenses, and the Special Edition Shaun White Holbrook.

Oakley Sunglasses - Frogskins

Also in the lifestyle category are the Oakley Frogskins. These classic shades are certainly geared to a younger customer base, and are somewhat iconic in terms of the celebrities known to have owned a pair of their own. Resurrected by Oakley from the late 80’s, come in today and have the chance to own a piece of history. We have the Non-polarized Frogskins and the Polarized Frogskins.

Oakley Sunglasses - Flak Jacket XLJ

The Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ are perfect frames for individuals and athletes who desire optimal performance from their sunglasses. With interchangeable lenses that are replaceable in seconds, the Flak Jacket XLJ can adapt to changing weather patterns without missing a beat. Stay ahead of the sun with the Flak Jacket XLJ with Iridium Lenses, the Flak Jacket XLJ Polarized Iridium, and the Flak Jacket XLJ Polarized.

Oakley Sunglasses - Half Jacket 2.0

Very similar in style to the Flak Jacket XLJ, the Oakley Half Jacket 2.0 are high-performance shades designed to improve your next outdoor sporting experience. The Half Jacket is very lightweight, thanks to the O Matter™ frame and Unobtainium® components. Come in today and grab a pair of Oakley Half Jacket 2.0 Sunglasses with Iridium Lenses or the Oakley Half Jacket 2.0 Polarized Sunglasses with Iridium Lenses.
